Campus will host Alive! Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Fair

Penn State Beaver will host “Alive! A Mental Health Fair and Suicide Prevention Tour,” 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the Student Union Building. The events are free and open to the public. The schedule of events follows:

11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Events will include graffiti art therapy, brain function exhibit, resource information and a “Post Your Own Secret” exhibit.

1:00 p.m. - “A Reason to Live” – an award-winning documentary film is about teen and young adult depression and suicide. The film captures twelve personal stories of despair and hope, told by young people of different ages, ethnicities and sexual preferences, and their families.

1:45 p.m. – Keynote address by Reese Butler, founder of the Hopeline Network, 1-800-SUICIDE

2:30 p.m. – QPR Training – Presentation on “Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) training to help someone save a life

3:30 p.m. – “Bullied” - a documentary focused on one student’s ordeal at the hands of anti-gay bullies as well as how to stop and overcome bullying

4:30 p.m. – Question and Answer session

The day’s events are presented by Penn State Beaver, the Kristin Brooks Hope Center, IMALIVE, and Help!, the Grad Student Crisis Line, 1-800-GRADHLP.
