Grkmans close Brodhead Cultural Center’s 35th season

9/2/2011 —

The Joe Grkman Polka Band presented a free concert for the public to conclude the Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center’s 35th season of summer programming. More than 375 people attended the show by the Grammy-nominated band which features three generations of Grkman musicians.

This summer’s programs were held in the auditorium of the campus Student Union Building due to electrical and other updates needed at the J. P. Giusti Amphitheater.

‘We had a great summer season,’ said Amy M. Krebs, director of campus and community relations and the Brodhead Cultural Center. ‘The shows were wonderful, and our audiences and performers were very understanding about our need to move into the auditorium in order to get the amphitheater in good shape for next summer’s shows.’

The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association sold concessions and Penn State Creamery ice cream at most of this summer’s shows. Sale proceeds benefit three scholarships for Beaver students that are sponsored by the Alumni Chapter.
