USCAA honors Lady Lions softball players in undefeated regular season
The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions finished the PSUAC regular season with a 14-0 record that included a 16-game winning streak. The team was 21-9 overall. Sophomores Ashley Watkins and Kori Freyermuth were honored by the USCAA last week as they led the Lady Lions to first place as the No. 1 seed in the PSUAC Championship Tournament at Penn State Altoona. The team also received an at-large bid to the USCAA National Tournament in Akron, Ohio.
Watkins was named the USCAA Co-Player of the Week. She hit 13 of 17 (.765 batting average) with 14 runs scored, 14 RBIs, two home runs, seven doubles, and a triple. On the season, Watkins has batted .529 with 45 hits, 15 doubles, three triples, 44 RBIs, and 12 home runs.
Freyermuth was named USCAA Co-Pitcher of the Week. In 11 innings, Freyermuth posted a 0.00 ERA with 16 strikeouts while allowing only seven hits and one walk. In 53.2 innings pitched, Freyermuth (6-4) had a 1.83 ERA, two shutouts, one no-hitter, and 52 strikeouts.
