Beaver alumni chapter and society honored by Alumni Association
The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association and the Penn State Beaver Alumni Society were honored at the Alumni Association's annual volunteer recognition dinner Friday, Oct. 29, at Penn State University Park.
The Alumni Chapter received the Outstanding Service Project Award, and the Alumni Society received the Scholarship and Fundraising Award. In addition, each group received $500. Penn State alumnus Don Veri, a member of the chapter's Board of Directors and the society's Golf Outing Committee, accepted the awards on behalf of both groups.
The alumni chapter was recognized for its 2009 annual Holiday Gift Drive for Beaver County Children and Youth Services. The chapter solicited gifts, as well as cash donations to purchase gifts, for more 125 children who were CYS clients. Over the last decade, the annual gift drive has collected and purchased gifts for more than 1,000 children, from newborns to age 18.
The alumni society was honored for its ninth annual Golf Outing in September 2009 which netted a record profit of $18,500 designated for the group’s endowed scholarship at Beaver campus. More than 100 players participated in the outing held at Seven Oaks Country Club, Brighton Township.
