Continuing Education will offer classes for educators, counselors
The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer two classes specially targeted at educators and counselors.
A course titled Early Childhood Education will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 15 to July 15. Counseling Youth at Risk (YAR) will be held from 1 to 4:45 p.m. on the same days and dates. Locations for the classes will be announced.
The "Early Childhood Education" course is a result of a partnership between Continuing Education and the Pennsylvania Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) which is jointly overseen by the state’s Department of Education and the Department of Public Welfare. The OCDEL works with numerous partners throughout the state to create opportunities for the commonwealth’s children. Parents, schools, child care, early intervention, Head Start, libraries, community organizations and other stakeholders have joined with the OCDEL to provide high quality early childhood programs and effective prevention strategies to mitigate challenges faced by families that affect school readiness and academic success.
The YAR course provides a solid base for working with children, adolescents and their families, and school support circles who are dealing with critical issues such as family problems, addiction, depression, sexuality and suicide. This program is designed for professional counselors, school counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and educators.
