Beaver will offer academic and athletic summer youth camps

This summer, the Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education and the Athletic Department will offer a series of academic and athletic enrichment camps.

June’s camp schedule follows:

Kids Learn to Cook
Directed by Beaver campus chefs, this camp will provide hands-on cooking lessons for children in a safe environment as they explore the Brodhead Bistro on campus as well as the industrial-size equipment and supplies used to prepare meals for campus students. Campers will also learn about the joy of cooking and eat the food they prepare.

Kids Learn to Cook - Beginners - Ages 8 to 10
Monday - Friday, June 21 - 25, 2010
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
$125 + $25 lab fee (includes ingredients for menu, T-shirt, or apron)

Kids Learn to Cook - Advanced - Ages 11 and up
Monday - Friday, June 28 - July 2, 2010
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
$150 + $25 lab fee (includes ingredients for menu, T-shirt, or apron)

Musical Theater for Beginners – Ages 9 to 12
Campers will immerse themselves in the theater arts to enhance their acting, singing, and dancing skills. At the end of the week, campers will perform a show for their families and other campers by incorporating all they've learned in the camp.

Musical Theater for Advanced Students – Ages 13 to 16
In this advanced class, campers will enhance their acting, singing, dancing, and performance skills through daily acting games, dancing, vocal warm-ups, and training. Campers will perform short scenes from a Broadway musical for their families and other campers at week’s end. Campers will also learn about auditioning techniques and how to become an actor.

Pirate Camp – Ages 6 to 10
In this interactive adventure camp, campers will use props and their imaginations to fight pirates, follow clues, and search for treasure while exploring Beaver’s 100-acre campus. Campers will also learn pirate songs, practice sword fighting, and make a pirate ship. Campers should bring a bagged lunch.

$205 (Includes snacks, T-shirt, craft supplies, and special activities)

Princess Camp
Campers of various ages are invited to have fun with fairy-tale magic as they dance to princess music, including songs from The Little Mermaid, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Mulan, and other fairy tales. Camp also includes dress-up, snacks, story time, princess crafts, decorating wands and crowns, and a Princess Tea Party. Campers will perform a magic routine for parents on the last day of camp.

Princess Camp - Section II - Ages 5 to 8

Princess Camp - Section III - Ages 3 to 5
Monday - Friday, June 28 - July 2, 2010
2 - 3:15 p.m.
$55 (Includes snacks, craft supplies, and T-shirt)

Baseball for Beginners – Ages 8 to 13
This camp will teach the fundamentals needed to be a successful, all-round baseball player, including hitting, bunting, defensive skills, base running, and game management.

Monday - Friday, June 21 - 25, 2010
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
$110 (includes T-shirt)

Advanced Baseball - Ages 14 to 18
This camp is designed for experienced players, and daily morning drills will cover all aspects of the game. Games will be held every afternoon, and a champion will be named at the end of the week. All campers will receive a Penn State Beaver Spirit Pack. Campers should bring a bagged lunch.

$130 (includes T-shirt)

Boys' Basketball Camp - Ages 8 to 13
This camp will teach the fundamental skills needed to be a successful basketball player, including shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, team defense, and rebounding. Campers should bring a bagged lunch.

Monday - Friday, June 28 - July 2, 2010
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
$130 (includes T-shirt)

Girls' Basketball Camp - Ages 8 to 13
This camp will teach the fundamental skills needed to be a successful basketball player, including shooting, dribbling, passing, defense, team defense, and rebounding. Campers should bring a bagged lunch.

Monday - Friday, July 5 - 9, 2010
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
$130 (includes T-shirt)

Fitness Camp - Ages 8 to 14
This co-ed camp is designed to promote fitness for life through a variety of physical activities, including baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, dodge ball, running, miniature golf, soccer, tennis, and football. Campers should bring a bagged lunch.

9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
$200 (includes T-shirt)

Softball Camp for Beginners - Ages 8 to 13
This camp is designed to improve the camper’s skills in all facets of the game, including hitting, defensive skills, base running, defensive strategies, and bunting. Campers should bring a bagged lunch.

Monday - Friday, June 14 - 18, 2010
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
$110 (includes T-shirt)

Advanced Softball Camp - Ages 14 to 18
This camp is designed for experienced players and will be conducted by college coaches. Daily morning drills will cover all aspects of the game, and games will be held every afternoon. A champion will be named at the end of the week. Campers will receive a Penn State Beaver Camp Spirit Pack and should bring a bagged lunch.
