Students help to raise $60,000 through Bowl for Kids Sake
Last month, Penn State Beaver students Jasmine Green, Amy Green and Stephanie Shearer joined other bowlers to help raise $60,000 for the Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters (BB/BS) of Beaver County Bowl for Kids Sake event at Sims’s Lanes in Beaver Falls. The students were featured in the BB/BS spring newsletter.
Jasmine is a junior business major from Allentown, Pa., and Amy is a sophomore communications major from Spotsylvania, Va. Shearer, a senior applied psychology major from Carnegie, Pa., also has spent the semester as an intern at BB/BS and will complete 240 hours of service and job shadowing by the end of April.
Shearer was team captain for the Bowl for Kids Sake project. "It’s impressive to see how many people support BB/BS. The feeling that you get when everyone shares something in common in the same room is great," she said.
"Stephanie has great potential, and she’s been a great asset to our team," said Quiana Hayes, projects director for BB/BS.
"Throughout my time at BB/BS, I’ve learned a lot about the organization and how gratifying it is to help out families in the Beaver County area," Shearer said.
The BB/BS program at Beaver campus meets two hours one night a week. Campus students serve as "bigs" to "littles" who are children from the community. Activities for the group include mini-golf, bowling, reading, YMCA days, themed parties and other events.
