Beaver men split doubleheader with PS Greater Allegheny
On Wednesday, April 22 the Penn State Beaver men’s baseball team hosted and split a double header with PSUAC opponent Penn State Greater Allegheny, winning game one, 2-0, and losing game two, 6-2.
In game one, junior pitcher Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School, Fair Oaks, PA) pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up only one hit and striking out sixteen. Freshman Dan Sonsini (Aliquippa High School, Aliquippa, PA) scored a run for Beaver in the second inning and, after reaching base with a hit, stole second and third before scoring on a pass ball. Junior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School, Fombell, PA) added a run in the third and scored later in the inning on an error off a bunt.
In game two, Beaver had ten hits scattered throughout the game, generating only two runs. Greater Allegheny scored three in the second, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth to build a 6-0 lead. Beaver scored one run each in the sixth and seventh innings. Sophomore Huston Lorenzo (Southwest Miami High School, Miami, FL) led with three hits and drove in a run while Sonsini added two hits and scored a run.
The Beaver Lions are 16-8 in the PSUAC and 22-16 overall. On Saturday, April 25 Beaver will travel to Penn State Abington for a noon game and will move on to Penn State Brandywine on Sunday, April 26 for the season’s final game at 11 a.m.
