Beaver County Times and campus co-sponsor spelling championship
More than twenty pupils from area schools will compete in the 2009 Beaver County Spelling Championship, the silver anniversary of the contest sponsored by Penn State Beaver and The Times. The event will be held Saturday, March 21, 10 a.m., in the auditorium of the Beaver campus Student Union Building. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
The best speller will receive a $1,500 scholarship to Penn State Beaver, $250, and the grand champion trophy. The runner-up will receive a $1,000 scholarship to Penn State Beaver, $150, and a silver trophy.
Contest judges are Dr. Angela Fishman, instructor in mathematics and coordinator of the Center for Academic Achievement, Beaver campus; Carleen Dinello, assistant director of academic affairs and senior instructor in English and reading, Beaver campus, and Marsha Keefer, public affairs editor, The Times.
The moderator will be Jim Luce, senior instructional services specialist at Beaver, and the pronouncer will be Stacy Koutoulakis, lecturer in English at Beaver.
