Lady Lions Softball Team Holds First Place in PSUAC

On Tuesday, April 22 the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team held first place in the PSUAC when they defeated Penn State Fayette in a doubleheader in Uniontown, 12-5 and 12-4. Beaver is 17-1 in the conference and 20-15 overall.

In game one, Beaver campus junior Sam Neely (Northgate High School) pitched seven innings, giving up eight hits, five walks, and striking out five. The offense had eighteen hits. Junior Becky Garcia (Riverside High School) and sophomore Alonna Verrico (Rochester High School) each led with three hits. Verrico drove in five runs, including a two-run home run in the third. Sophomore Melanie Fuhr (Hopewell High School) added two hits.

In game two, freshman Kayla Chambers (South Side High School) pitched five innings, giving up five hits, walking none, and striking out five. Offensively, sophomore Chelsea Brownlee (Avella High School), senior Abby Mihalyi (OLSH High School), and sophomore Amy Roberts (Rochester High School) each had two hits in the win, and Mihalyi drove in three runs.

The Beaver Lady Lions will close their PSUAC schedule on Sunday, April 27 when they host Penn State Mont Alto in a doubleheader at noon.
