Beaver Lady Lions Score Two Victories over Franciscan

The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions softball team defeated Franciscan University in a doubleheader at Beaver, 18-3 and 12-3, on Wednesday, April 9.

In game one, sophomore Sam Neely (Northgate High School) pitched five innings, gave up two hits, walked one and struck out five. Neely gave up three runs, none earned. Offensively, sophomore Jamie Clouse (Laurel High School) led the way with four hits and six RBIs. Senior Becky Garcia (Riverside High School) had three hits, and junior Alonna Verrico (Rochester High School) and senior Abby Mihalyi (OLSH High School) each had two hits and one double. Junior Melissa Swoager (South Side High School) hit a home run.

In game two, sophomore Chelsea Brownlee (Avella High School) took the mound to earn the win. Brownlee pitched five innings, gave up six hits, walked one and struck out five. Offensively, sophomore Amanda Moore (Hopewell High School) led the way with two hits.

The wins take the team over .500. Their record stands at 14-13 overall and 11-1 in the PSUAC.

Beaver returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 13, when they travel to Port Vue to take on Penn State Greater Allegheny in a PSUAC match-up. The team will return home on Thursday, April 17, to host Waynesburg University at 3:30 p.m.
