Beaver Campus, Chamber of Commerce Present New Community Speakers Series
Penn State Beaver and the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor a new Community Speaker Series open to the public. The first speaker will be Dr. Neil Capretto, medical director at Gateway Rehabilitation Center, on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Beaver campus Student Union Building.
Tickets for the event are $5 for Chamber of Commerce members and any student with a student ID. Tickets are $10 for non-Chamber members. Reservations can be made by calling the Chamber at 724-775-3944.
Gateway Rehabilitation Center is a not-for-profit organization that provides treatment for adults, youth, young adults, and families with alcohol and other drug-related problems while also providing comprehensive prevention services. Gateway, an internationally renowned drug and alcohol treatment facility, has 600 staff members and treats 1,800 patients per day in more than 20 locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
In 1998 Capretto was named medical director at Gateway where he has been a full-time psychiatrist since 1989. He is certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatric and Neurology and is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and was the chief resident in psychiatry at St. Francis General Hospital. Capretto is the author of numerous articles and has given presentations to a wide range of audiences on topics related to addiction and substance abuse.
He is a consultant for the local and national media and has provided expert medical commentary for a variety of news sources, including ABC News, NBC News, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, People Magazine, and Lifetime TV. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the Task Force on Addiction Medicine in the 21st Century, and the American Academy of Psychiatrists in Alcoholism and Addiction.
The Community Speakers Series will continue with a presentation by former Pittsburgh Pirate Steve Blass, 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 15 in the Beaver campus auditorium.
