Penn State alumni host event at Pittsburgh's ToonSeum
The public is invited to attend a presentation titled "From Comic Books to
Hollywood: Superheroes at the Box Office," 5:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, May 12, at the Pittsburgh ToonSeum. The program will feature Matt McAllister, professor of film and media studies and Penn State Teaching Fellow who will provide an educational, entertaining look at comic books and movies. He will discuss how superhero comic books have changed the Hollywood blockbuster movie and how the comic book-movie relationship has changed comic books.

Beaver will offer STEM-related summer camps for youth
The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer four summer camps related to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) initiative. The nation-wide emphasis on STEM is designed to provide children and adults with an increased understanding of career and development opportunities in the science and math fields. Admissions Office will host program for high school students, parents
The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host "It's Almost Your Time," a free college-prep program for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students and their families, 9:30 a.m., Saturday, May 7, in the Student Union Building. The program is designed to help students and their families begin thinking about college and the planning needed to obtain a college education. Beaver alumnus will speak at spring commencement
Penn State Beaver alumnus Patrick McGivern will speak at the campus' spring commencement at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 13, in the auditorium of the Student Union Building on campus. McGivern, an aerospace engineer with Lockheed Martin, attended Beaver for two years, then moved to Penn State University Park where he graduated with an engineering degree in 1990. New summer camp will be offered for high school entrepreneurs
The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will offer a Young Entrepreneurs Camp, a new, five-day summer camp designed to attract high school sophomores and juniors interested in creating and designing a business.
The camp will be held on campus from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 25-29. Students will work in teams and learn how to conduct research, develop a business plan, create a trade show booth, and present a business model. Campers will work with Penn State Beaver faculty and student mentors and will visit and tour local businesses to see companies in action. On the last day of camp, a panel of celebrity judges will determine which team has designed the most impressive business. Friends and family are invited to attend this final event. USCAA honors Lady Lions softball players in undefeated regular season
The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions finished the PSUAC regular season with a 14-0 record that included a 16-game winning streak. The team was 21-9 overall.
Sophomores Ashley Watkins and Kori Freyermuth were honored by the USCAA last week as they led the Lady Lions to first place as the No. 1 seed in the PSUAC Championship Tournament at Penn State Altoona. The team also received an at-large bid to the USCAA National Tournament in Akron, Ohio.
