Beaver Valley Area alumni chapter to hold fifth annual Wine Taste

The public is invited to attend the fifth annual Wine Taste sponsored by the
Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association from 7 to 9:30
p.m. on Saturday, March 26, at Felicity Farms Bed and Breakfast. Proceeds from
the event support the alumni chapter's outreach projects on behalf of Penn
State Beaver and the community. The evening includes a wide selection of wines
to sample as well as hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and an auction. Space is
limited, so guests should respond as quickly as possible. The event costs $35

Penn State Beaver alumni, friends, and fans now have the option to follow the
Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association on Facebook at

Residence life coordinator chosen for special THON project

Judson Sammons, residence life coordinator at Penn State Beaver, is one of
only 20 people who have been selected to donate their hair onstage during the
upcoming Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON), which will be held
Feb. 18 to 20 at the Bryce Jordan Center on the University Park campus. The
hair-cutting event will be held from 4:45 to 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19,
and all donations will be given to the THON Wigs for Kids project.

Stay on top of campus alerts with PSUTXT

Students, faculty, staff, parents, and the general community are invited to
register for PSUTXT, a free service designed to alert the Penn State community
via text messages to cell phones when situations arise on campus that affect
the ability of the campus, i.e. students, faculty and staff, to function
normally and/or conduct business as usual. In addition, subscribers can elect

Admissions will host free FAFSA workshop

The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host a free workshop for
prospective students and their families. A Line-by-Line Workshop on the Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be held from 10 a.m. to noon,
Saturday, Feb. 12, in the computer lab in the Laboratory Classroom Building.

Basketball player garners USCAA Player of the Week honors

Jasmine Green, a senior business major from Jersey City, N.J., recently was
selected as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Women's
Basketball Honorable Mention Player of the Week. Green has been a member of
the Beaver Lady Lions basketball team for four years and was a key player in
leading the women to consecutive Penn State University Athletic Conference
(PSUAC) championships in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Marcellus Shale was topic of faculty presentation

Penn State Beaver's Spring Semester Faculty Speakers Series began with a
presentation titled "Thoughts About Marcellus Shale," presented by Peter
Deutsch, associate professor of physics. The program was held Feb. 2. For more

Penn State to conduct test of PSUTXT system

Just as the Emergency Broadcast System periodically runs tests on radio and
television stations, Penn State plans to test the PSUTXT text-messaging system
to help ensure its functionality in a true emergency. At 1 p.m. on Feb. 23,
PSUTXT administrators from each campus will log into the system and send a
message that will be marked clearly as a test.
