Housing request process begins Nov. 15

 

Eligible students who wish to live on campus for 2011-12 must submit a housing contract request through the eLiving Housing Contract System. The eLiving Contract Request process will take place between noon on Nov. 15, 2010, and noon on Jan. 20, 2011.

Beaver alumni chapter and society honored by Alumni Association

 

The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association and the Penn State Beaver Alumni Society were honored at the Alumni Association's annual volunteer recognition dinner Friday, Oct. 29, at Penn State University Park. The Alumni Chapter received the Outstanding Service Project Award, and the Alumni Society received the Scholarship and Fundraising Award. In addition, each group received $500. Penn State alumnus Don Veri, a member of the chapter's Board of Directors and the society's Golf Outing Committee, accepted the awards on behalf of both groups. Admissions Office will host Veterans Day Open House

 

The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host a Veterans Day Open House from 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Student Union Building.  Prospective students are encouraged to attend, to gather information and talk with current students, faculty, and staff. Faculty Speaker Series will continue on Nov. 17

 

The Penn State Beaver Fall Faculty Speaker Series will continue with a presentation by an engineering faculty member and his student at noon Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the Lodge, Student Union Building. Alumni Chapter's annual gift drive for children is under way

 

The Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association is conducting its annual Gift Drive for Beaver County Children and Youth Services (CYS). The gifts will be distributed to children who are CYS clients.  Participants will be provided with the first name, age, and gift preferences of a child or children, purchase and wrap the gift(s), and drop them off to the Alumni Chapter. In addition, participants have the option of making a monetary contribution to the Alumni Chapter whose members will, in turn, purchase and wrap gifts for the children.

Public invited to attend Alumni Chapter tailgate

 

The public is invited to attend a tailgate hosted by the Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association, Saturday, Nov. 13, at Zooky's Sports Tavern, 450 Constitution Boulevard, Beaver Falls, Pa. The Penn State Nittany Lions will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio; game time will be announced.  Continuing Education offers Sustainable Landscape Technology program

 

The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education is offering a Sustainable Landscape Technology Certificate, a six-course program that will begin in January. The program also will be available at Penn State Fayette and the Penn State Center-Pittsburgh. The first two courses in the program will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 11 through March 31. A class in horticultural science will be held on Tuesdays and a course in herbaceous perennial and annual identification will be held on Thursdays. The four remaining courses will be offered from October through December 2011 and January through March 2012. Presentation on human trafficking draws 300

 

On Wednesday, Oct. 27, 300 students, faculty, staff, and members of the public attended a noon presentation by E. Benjamin Skinner in the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building auditorium. Skinner, the author of 'A Crime So Monstrous: Face-to-Face with Modern-Day Slavery,' presented research and first-hand information about the atrocities of human trafficking and slavery around the globe, including the United States. He also conducted a question-and-answer session with the audience. The Office of Student Affairs, which sponsored the presentation, also hosted a luncheon for Skinner and 40 members of the audience following his presentation.
