Campus and community attend Rock and Roar Music Fest


On Thursday, Sept. 23, Penn State Beaver held its sixth annual free fall concert from 7:30 to 11 p.m. in the Brodhead Cultural Center's J. P. Giusti Amphitheater. Members of the community as well as students and staff attended the Rock and Roar Music Fest which featured Pittsburgh artists Anthony Rankin and Punchline and The Adam Craig Band from Nashville. During the concert, campus students sold glow sticks to raise more than $100 for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Beaver County. The fall concert is sponsored by the Student Activity Fee and Beaver campus. Public invited to attend poetry reading by Penn State laureate


The public is invited to attend a poetry reading and book signing by Robin Becker, Penn State laureate, at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28 in the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building. A reception will be held following the poetry reading.

Cello Fury to give free concert on Sept. 29 at Penn State Beaver


Cello Fury, a group of three classically-trained cellists and a rock drummer who perform high-energy, original music, will perform at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, in the auditorium at the Penn State Beaver Student Union Building.  Admission to the concert is free.

Campus will cosponsor general election debate


Penn State Beaver, the Beaver County Chamber of Commerce, and Clearview Federal Credit Union will cosponsor a general election debate from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 7, in the auditorium of the Beaver campus Student Union Building. The debate is free and open to the public. Invited participants include Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett and opponent Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato as well as those running for office in Pennsylvania Districts 4, 10, 14, 15, 16, 18 and 46.

Faculty speaker series opens with presentation on gender equity


Clare Conry-Murray, assistant professor of psychology at Penn State Beaver, recently gave the first presentation in the 2010-11 Penn State Beaver Faculty Speaker Series. Conry-Murray discussed her research and findings in a presentation titled "Boys Get the Apples, and Girls Get the Oranges: Children's Judgements of Gender Equity."

Application workshop will be held Oct. 11


The Penn State Beaver Admissions Office will host a Columbus Day application workshop from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, in the Student Union Building. Advanced registration is not required.

Office of Continuing Education will offer engineering review course


Penn State Beaver's Office of Continuing Education offers comprehensive PE and EIT review courses for engineers who are preparing for their professional licensure examinations. Review sessions provide subject matter that prepares engineers to sit for the national exams. Courses employ a comprehensive collection of questions and answers from past exams while familiarizing participants with exam formats and procedures. In addition, all programs require participants to spend time out of class to review material and solve homework problems. A review course in Fundamentals of Engineering/Engineer-In-Training will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, from Sept. 28, 2010 through March 29, 2011 at the PennDOT Office in Bridgeville. Topics will include mathematics, statics, mechanics of materials, dynamics, electrical circuits and engineering ethics.

Commission for Women to hold annual fall kick-off Sept. 30


Penn State's Commission for Women's annual fall kick-off is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, in Robb Hall at the Hintz Family Alumni Center on the University Park campus. Appointed and affiliate members are encouraged to attend. The event is open to all students, faculty and staff interested in learning about and contributing to the commission's efforts this year.
