How to Connect to the Wireless Network
To connect to the wireless network, you'll need an 802.11b compatible wireless card and a VPN client. See the instructions below on obtaining a VPN client. The only way to connect to the Internet is through the Penn State VPN.
For Windows Computers:
- To download the Cisco VPN client, go to http://downloads.its.psu.edu. After logging in with your Penn State Access ID, select "Connecting to Penn State," select "VPN-Virtual Private Network," and then select the appropriate client (Windows, Macintosh, or Linux). When you get the option or "Save" or "Run," select "Run." Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Once you have downloaded and installed the VPN client, you can access the Internet through the wireless network.
- When you're sure that your wireless network adapter recognizes the wireless network, start the VPN application.
- If your computer doesn't recognize the wireless network, please see the documentation that came with your wireless adapter.
- When you start the VPN application, you'll see a list of possible connections.
- From this list, select "ITS Wireless at Penn State Beaver."
- You'll be asked to enter your Penn State access account user ID and password.
- When you see the small, closed lock icon in the screen's lower right corner, you'll know you're connected to the VPN.
- Now you can access the Internet.
For Mac or Linux Computers:
The steps are the same as those for Windows computers, except you'll choose the "Mac" or "Linux" VPN client from the downloads website.
