Course Spotlight: How to Become a Better Presenter with Prezi

Prezi is an online, cloud-based presentation and dynamic storytelling tool for presenting ideas on a virtual canvas. With Prezi you can create eye-catching, engaging presentations that are shareable and easy to collaborate on synchronously or asynchronously—making group presentations a breeze. To learn about all the benefits and different uses of Prezi and how it can make you a better presenter, visit our Becoming a Better Presenter with Prezi blog post.

If you are already interested in incorporating Prezi into you classroom, but are unsure how to do it, this month’s discussion-oriented seminar, “Faculty Chat: Using Prezi to Enhance Your Teaching," is a great introduction to the fundamentals of using Prezi in the classroom. In the faculty chat, participants will discuss best uses of Prezi for teaching and learning, review case studies, and determine if Prezi is the best teaching technology for their teaching situations. To register, please visit Faculty Chat: Using Prezi to Enhance Your Teaching.

For a more in-depth introduction to Prezi, an overview workshop is also available in March. A workshop, "Prezi: Overview," includes specific use cases and covers the most commonly used tools and features, including formatting tools, design principles, and publishing options for presentations. To register, visit the Prezi: Overview page.

Ever Work at Home? New Software Options just for you through Software @ Penn State

Discounts are available for the work-at-home versions of some of the most popular software for which we provide training, e.g. Microsoft Office 2013 (2011 for Mac), Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro, Adobe Acrobat Pro XI, and Adobe Creative Cloud. All these are available at Software @ Penn State. For those working at home on personal computers, these special discounts can amount to substantial savings, as is the case for a 12-month subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud at just $165, which is an additional 68% off the education discount available through Adobe.

This is great news for staff and faculty who use personal computers for Penn State work. You can save money and work conveniently from your location. Previously, you had to order a disk with the software you needed, but now the entire software purchasing process is online and faster than ever before.

By downloading software directly from the Software @ Penn State website, you can get your software upgrade in minutes instead of days, no matter the time of day. This is just one more reason why now is the perfect time to take advantage of this great opportunity to upgrade your everyday software. You can finally side step all the hassles of saving files in older formats and reap the benefits of the improved security and easier interfaces offered by the latest software updates.

For specific software pricing and to learn more, visit the brand new Software @ Penn State site and type “work at home” in the search field at the top right of the page. Specific download instructions and licensing details are available on the specific software pages. If you have additional questions or need assistance, please contact us at software@psu.edu.

Remember! If you're feeling nervous about making the jump to an updated interface, our IT Training Services Department is here to help you! This month we have workshops on Access and PowerPoint and technology learning assistants are always available during the day. You can always visit lynda.psu.edu for free video tutorials.
