What did you like most about Penn State Beaver?

I could write a short novel on what I loved most about Penn State Beaver. Not kidding! But there are three things that always stood out: the small class sizes; the Bistro staff; and, most importantly, the faculty and staff's willingness to let the students' voices be heard!

What was your favorite class?

My favorite classes at Penn State Beaver were the public relations courses instructed by Dr. Juliette Storr. They really prepared me for my career and how to succeed in the real world!

My Penn State Story

After graduating from Penn State Beaver with my bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communications, I knew I wanted to pursue a position that incorporated my love for working with others and public speaking. One thing I learned during my speech classes at Penn State Beaver is that I love being in front of others delivering a message!

I landed my first salaried position shortly after graduation. I was so excited to have my first job and finally be in the real world. Over the next three years, my excitement level went on a roller coaster ride, and I changed my place of employment twice. I was struggling to find a job that I really cared for and that fit my career aspirations.

In 2012, after much searching, I finally realized what I wanted to do. I connected with a woman who provided me with an amazing opportunity to co-host a local TV talk show called “Inspiring Lives with Dr. Shellie.” This opportunity made clear what career path I wanted to pursue: becoming a TV host! After working with the talk show, I decided it was time to get serious and take a professional TV hosting class. I attended a weekend boot camp hosting class in California, and by the time I was done, I realized that if I was going to do this, California was where I needed to live.

At this point, I had to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life. With nothing but hopes and dreams to guide me, my boyfriend and I loaded up our two cars and made the move across the country from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. I took more hosting classes, connected with more and more people, and slowly but surely worked my way toward my dream.

After living in LA for 11 months, I've danced with Vivica Fox on camera, interviewed some pretty awesome celebs at charity events, launched my own online radio talk show, and have officially landed a job as a field reporter/sports host for Oomba.TV!

You may be thinking, "What does Penn State Beaver have to do with all of this?" Well, it has everything to do with it. Penn State Beaver played the most important role. My experience there planted the seeds in me that have helped me grow into the person and professional I am today. At Penn State Beaver, I learned independence, self-confidence, determination, how to overcome personal struggle, and so much more. Penn State Beaver was the spark that lit my fire to inspire!
